Rosalia

Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. [7][8] Born and raised in the outskirts of Barcelona her music was described as an "atypical pop artist" because of her genre-bending musical styles. She was attracted by Spanish folk music when she was 13 years old. She was a musicologist at the Catalonia College of Music and was also a wedding singer. The project reinvented flamenco and mingled it with pop music and hip-hop music. The songs "Malamente", and "Pienso en tu Mira" were a hit among the Spanish public , and were met with universal critical acclaim. [11] Recipient of the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year and featured in the Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, El Mal Querer started the climb of Rosalia into the world music scene. Rosalia's 2019 albums "Con Altura" (13) and "Yo Ti Tu x Mi" (12-13) were a pioneer in the field of urbano music, and achieved global popularity. She gave reggaeton an experimental twist on her third album Motomami (2022) and departed from the modern flamenco sound of the previous album. With singles "La Fama," and "Saoko", the album was a hit worldwide and was voted the best-rated album of the year by Metacritic. Rosalia has had ten number one singles from her home country throughout her career. This is the highest number she's ever had an artist from her own country. Two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including 2 Album of the Year wins) and four MTV Video Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards have been awarded to Rosalia. She also received two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard gave her the Rising Star Award in 2019 for "changing the current music landscape by bringing flamenco to pop"[18]. She was also the first singing Spanish artist to be nominated by the Grammys for Best New Artist. Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. She was born into an ethnically diverse family and is the youngest daughter of Pilar Tobella who runs a small family business that specializes in metalworking. Jose Manuel Vila, her father, was born in Cudillero. They divorced in the year 2019. The older sister, Pilar Vila ("born 1989") is her stylist and creative brain. Rosalia was interested in the performing arts as a child, particularly after she discovered the discography by Camaron de la Isla. Her musical education began in Taller de Musics. She completed a six-year course in the academy. She began at the Raval school, but later moved to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. Additionally, she was a singer on her own at weddings and in bars with musical music in which she was paid "a barely over 80 euros or in exchange for dinner". [26] During that time, Rosalia met many underground Spanish performers who later would be successful, including La Zowi, Yung Beef, Kaydy Cain, Hinds and Maria Escarmiento.
